Atium’s co-founder Professor Björn Wickman has been awarded a SEK 3 million Proof-of-Concept grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The project focuses on mercury removal from concentrated sulfuric acid and supports the transition from research to practical industrial implementation.
As part of the project, a postdoctoral researcher will be recruited to further develop and optimize the technology. This includes work on electrode regeneration to enable continuous operation in industrial settings. Atium will collaborate closely with the research team to support development and deployment.
Sulfuric acid is one of the most widely used chemicals globally and a significant source of mercury emissions. This research project represents an important step toward reducing industrial pollution and securing mercury-free sulphuric acid production. Congratulations, Björn!
